Local Government Salary Increase Implementation in January 2011 (Philippines)
Local government unit personnel in the Philippines are anxious about the upcoming implementation of the Salary Standardization Law III. Midyear of 2010, national government employees have already received their second batch of increases in salary. That of local government employees will be implemented by January 1, 2011.
Local Budget Circular No. 95 defines the guidelines, rules, and regulations governing the implementation of the local government schedule of salary increases. Increases in the salary of local government employees are primarily determined by the income class of the city or municipality. The higher the income of a local government unit, the higher the increases in the salaries of local government employees. Urbanized cities have relatively higher salary increases than those of their counterpart in the rural areas.
The increases correspond with the standard of living in each city or municipality.

The salary increase was implemented by the government of the Philippines to help curb out corruption due to low government salaries in the past years. In due time, with the political will of the current leadership of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, Jr., it is hoped that with the salary increase in government employees, the well-sought development desired for the country will finally be realized.
